The idea of composing “stock” soundtrack music is older than you imagine. Back in the day this happened within the universe of written scores. This image might give a good insight into it. The score gives also a good insight into the “smart” and direct orchestral approach.
Turning these pages will show you how much this typified view of soundtracks has to teach. I can’t understand how music is attached to a singular concrete event:no, music is always the universal. But it is also not universal in the sense that we just expect the “absolute” out of it. It is universal because it touches an inherent archetypal character of reality.
Another type of score was an album with multiple themes from classical music. The trend of banalizing Vivaldi and Beethoven”s music is older than you might think…!
I have been digging for a good album of themes to be used for my own improvisation studies but also in class.
