This habit is a game changer for me: to observe DURING the composing proccess how effective my workflow habits were. This means, to save some free time while you compose in order to confront yourself about some habits. The reason for this is that, paradoxically, only when you are actually composing some piece in some style you have a real concrete problem to solve. ONly with this real and clear picture of the problem makes sense to try to solve it. When you are not composing, or when you are not actually composing in a professional sense, you still donโt have an idea about the biggest problems that tend to annoy you. These will haunt you in the most crucial moments, when you are so focused on the music. In this sense, when I composed more than 400 tracks, many of them are the product of me actually experimenting or correcting some habits.
When you compose music in your early attempts, try to also develop the habit of being aware of your own compositional process and if there is some stupid stone in the way that actually makes not so much sense.
