However, most of them do not create the music I do and do not share the humanistic principles I do. They did not study with big names as I did (but with other big names). Art has a lot to do with a profile match between student and teacher: you are not learning an absolute. I can verify that most of them cannot improvise or master an instrument, and a significant amount of them cannot read your scores when you bring your written music to them. Conversely, they cannot teach advanced techniques—like those employed daily by professionals—only using the piano roll and jazz notation. The support of written scores is not only essential, but it is a key factor that will help you broaden your skillset to an extent that matches what the freelance market demands.
